There are a huge number of reasons you might want to start blogging, and as long as you’re a fan of food, blogging about food may be the ideal choice for you. There are three main steps in setting up a blog, and in this article we’re going to go through them one by one, giving you tips, tricks, and help to get a head start over the competition.
1 – Technical Wizardry
For an awfully long time, the technical side of creating a blog or website was by far the most complex and challenging aspect. Thankfully, there are now a number of clever sites which allow you to easily and quickly set up the technical aspects from the comfort of your home.
There are two things that you need to secure: a domain name and a web host. A domain name is something like ‘google.com’, which people will enter into their browsers to find your site. A web host is a physical server that stores your website’s data and makes it available online. Think of it as a car park where you ‘park’ your site, and other people can also enter and view your site.
2 – WordPress and Google Tools
By far the quickest and easiest way to get the most functionality out of your website is through WordPress and Google Tools.
WordPress is the industry standard blogging software, and it what you’ll spend most of your time interacting with to create posts, forms, and galleries. For extra functionality, you can also use WordPress plugins, which are essentially extra apps that you can add to your page that fulfill a specific function. For a food blog, it would be worth considering a plugin to help you write recipes more easily.
Google tools are incredibly useful when running a blog, as they allow you to view all sorts of statistics and data about your site. For example, perhaps the most valuable tool is Google Analytics. This feature allows you to view information about how people are viewing your site, which, in turn, means that you can make your site more easily available to people using other mediums.
3 – Write!
This is the final step, and, frustratingly, it’s often the most difficult. Provided you’ve got a plan and enough time to write, cook, and eat, you should be perfectly fine. The challenge lies in making the plan.
It could be wise to start off with a few dishes or ingredients that you believe define your cooking style. For example, my favorite herb is garlic, so I might start with a few garlic-heavy recipes to get a feel for how I’d like to write and release my work.
Making a successful food blog is a perfectly achievable goal. The steps we’ve given you here will definitely point you in the right direction, and once you’ve done that you’ll be more than capable to write to your heart’s content. Don’t forget, this is the goal that you’ve been working towards: enjoy it!
